Cubs Brewers Baseball Game

CHICAGO, Ill. — The Chicago Cubs and Milwaukee Brewers continue their longstanding rivalry today as they meet at Wrigley Field for the first time this season. Both teams are battling for dominance in the National League Central division.

The Cubs, currently leading the division, boast a strong lineup while the Brewers aim to catch up. The last time these two teams met was in September, when Cubs manager Craig Counsell noted the stark difference between his former team and the Brewers, who were ten games behind in the standings.

One year ago, the Brewers held a commanding lead over the Cubs, finishing the first half of the season with a record of 42-30. Meanwhile, the Cubs struggled, sitting last in the division at 34-39. Despite last year’s challenges, the Brewers found success, winning 93 games, compared to the Cubs’ 83.

The rivalry has fluctuated over the years, with the Brewers dominating from 2011 to 2013. The Cubs then turned the tables, winning the season series for five consecutive years from 2014 to 2018. However, the Cubs have only edged the Brewers out in one of the last six seasons.

The Brewers have made significant strides under manager Pat Murphy, who took over for Counsell. Their recent performances, including a record of 18 wins and 9 losses since a shaky start, keep them in the race, though they currently trail the Cubs by 5½ games.

As the Cubs have excelled offensively this season, leading the league in runs, their pitching strategy remains a question. The absence of Justin Steele may challenge their performance, while the Brewers hold an advantage in starting pitching despite past challenges with players Corbin Burnes and Brandon Woodruff.

As fans gather at Wrigley Field today, the stakes are high. The Cubs aim to maintain their lead, while the Brewers seek to shift the momentum in their favor.
