Chicago Cubs Vs Colorado Rockies Game

CHICAGO, IL — The Chicago Cubs faced the struggling Colorado Rockies on Monday, winning 3-1 at Wrigley Field in front of 40,171 fans on Memorial Day. Starting pitcher Jameson Taillon led the charge, allowing just one run over 6 1/3 innings.

“We’re finding a way to win different types of games,” Taillon said. “It’s good right now. Obviously a lot of year ahead, but it’s a nice mix.”

This victory was crucial for the Cubs, as the Rockies struggled to find their footing, now sitting at 9-45 for the season. Colorado has not won a series in their first 17 attempts, a statistic the Cubs aimed to avoid becoming part of.

Taillon improved to 4-3 for the season, and the bullpen’s strong performance, including Daniel Palencia’s third save, showcased the team’s depth. The contest took place on a cool, sunny afternoon, where the wind played a significant factor, often blowing in from the outfield.

Although the Cubs scored only four hits, they managed to capitalize on their opportunities. The Cubs took the lead in the first inning when Dansby Swanson drove in a run with a groundout. Rockies player Mickey Moniak temporarily tied the game with a home run, but Kyle Tucker’s single put the Cubs back on top.

The Cubs have shown resilience, going 10-3 against teams below .500 over their last 21 games, positioning themselves well as they aim for a successful summer. They hold a 33-21 record overall, while the Rockies’ dismal performance continues to draw attention.

“When you’ve got a lot of guys producing at a really good level, it’s tough to get through parts of our lineup,” Cubs manager Craig Counsell said.

With the loss, the Rockies continued their struggles, having lost 25 of their last 28 matches. They look to revive their season as they continue the series with the Cubs.
