Cubs Seek Victory Against Marlins After Recent Sweeps

CHICAGO, Ill. — The Chicago Cubs are looking to maintain their momentum as they face the Miami Marlins in a three-game series starting Monday. The Cubs recently swept their cross-town rivals, the Chicago White Sox, at Wrigley Field, while the Marlins won two out of three games against the Tampa Bay Rays.
The unique scheduling of six games against a single opponent within ten days has sparked some debate among fans, with many longing for return to a more balanced schedule. After this series, the Cubs likely won’t see the Marlins again until the second half of 2026.
The Marlins have struggled with their pitching this season, ranking near the bottom of MLB in several statistics including ERA and walk rate. Their low fastball usage has not yielded positive results, and the team’s rotation has been a major weakness. Ryan Weathers is a recent acquisition who could bolster their lineup, but Sandy Alcantara continues to search for form after experiencing a rough patch.
On the offensive side, the Marlins seem to perform better against relievers than starters, raising concerns about their consistency. However, recent breakouts from Kyle Stowers and Agustín Ramírez have offered some hope for the struggling hitters.
Historically, the Cubs have fared well against the Marlins, boasting a .517 winning percentage with 121 wins to 113 losses. The Cubs have outscored the Marlins by over 100 runs overall, showing dominance in previous matchups.
This series will mark the Cubs’ first of three instances this season facing an opponent in two out of three series. They will also be taking on the Cincinnati Reds following their matchup with the Marlins.
For the upcoming games, the pitching matchups include Ben Brown for the Cubs against Edward Cabrera in the opener, followed by Jameson Taillon facing Ryan Weathers on Tuesday. Cade Horton will take the mound against Max Meyer in Wednesday’s finale. Despite tricky pitching battles, the Cubs are hopeful to take two out of three games in the series.
