Cubs’ Turner Out as Team Faces Rangers

CHICAGO, Ill. — Chicago Cubs shortstop Justin Turner will not participate in Monday’s game against the Texas Rangers. This decision comes after Turner made his third start of the season during Sunday’s contest, where the Cubs fell to the San Diego Padres 8-7.
In that game, Turner struggled at the plate, finishing 0-for-4, although he managed to contribute one run batted in (RBI). This marks a continuing trend for Turner, as all three of his starts this season have been against left-handed pitchers.
With the Cubs’ regular lineup intact, Turner’s role appears to be limited predominantly to a short-side platoon. Manager David Ross indicated that the team would prioritize player matchups, particularly against opposing lefties.
“He’s been working hard,” Ross said in a post-game interview. “It’s tough to get into a rhythm when you’re only playing periodically, but we value what he brings defensively and as a veteran presence.”
Following this latest absence, it is unclear when Turner will return to full-time play. The Cubs are expected to continue evaluating their lineup as they navigate the season’s challenges.
