Cummins Focuses on India Tests, Skips T20 Tour
Australia’s cricket captain, Pat Cummins, has decided to put all his energy into preparing for the upcoming Test series against India. To do this, he’s skipping the white-ball tour to the UK this September.
Cummins has had a packed schedule over the past few months and believes that focusing solely on the five Test matches against India is the best strategy. He plans to spend the next month hitting the gym to get ready.
Meanwhile, Alyssa Healy, the captain of the Australian women’s team, is gearing up for the Twenty20 World Cup. However, there are concerns about whether the tournament will take place in Bangladesh, given the current political unrest there.
The situation in Bangladesh has been troubling, with anti-government protests resulting in significant violence. Healy expressed her doubts about holding a cricket event in such a challenging environment, stating that it feels wrong to divert resources when people are suffering.
As for Cummins, he’s taking some much-needed time off bowling after nearly two years of continuous play. He will join in for at least one Sheffield Shield game before the Test summer kicks off, but now he’s focusing on his fitness.
He mentioned that preparing for the Border-Gavaskar Trophy is his priority, and he’s already eyeing the one-day series against Pakistan as part of his training.
Cummins acknowledged that with the series against India being extended to five Tests this year, managing player workloads will be crucial. He believes that he and other players will need to step up, especially bowlers like Cameron Green and Mitch Marsh, who can play multiple roles in the team.
Overall, it looks like Cummins is strategically prioritizing his commitments as he gets ready for a challenging Test series, while also ensuring the well-being of his body after a grueling schedule.
