Daan Hoole Triumphs in Rainy Stage 10 Time Trial at Giro d’Italia

PISA, Italy — Daan Hoole of Lidl-Trek claimed victory in stage 10 of the Giro d’Italia, a challenging individual time trial from Lucca to Pisa, held on May 20, 2025. Hoole crossed the finish line with a time of 32:30, averaging a speed of 52.8 kilometers per hour to secure his first WorldTour-level win.
Hoole’s triumph was celebrated just moments after he finished his ride, where he outpaced his rival Josh Tarling by 7 seconds. Tarling, who had set a blistering pace early on, finished with a time of 32:37.
“It didn’t sink in yet, I cannot believe it. I’m full of emotions,” Hoole stated after the race. “I was aiming for this day. The GC guys had rain, which changed a lot, but I’m still happy I could beat Tarling in the same conditions.”
The weather played a significant role in the outcome of the time trial. Late rainfall complicating the rides of the general classification (GC) contenders significantly hampered their performances.
Isaac Del Toro, the young star wearing the pink jersey, finished in 37th place, clocking a time of 34:52. He managed to hold onto his overall lead despite losing 2:22 to Hoole.
Juan Ayuso finished in 22nd place, losing 48 seconds to his teammate Del Toro but remains a key challenger in the GC standings. As a result, Del Toro now leads Ayuso by 25 seconds.
Meanwhile, Primoz Roglic, recovering from a recent crash during a recon ride, climbed to fifth place overall after finishing 17th in the time trial with a time of 33:45. He gained valuable seconds on his primary competitors.
“It was important to recover from my fall and try to make up time on the leaders,” Roglic said. “I’m satisfied with my performance today.”
The top five positions in the overall classification are now: Del Toro, Ayuso, Roglic, Tiberi, and Yates. As the race progresses, the tension builds, setting the scene for an exciting continuation of the Giro d’Italia.
