Dak Prescott’s Extended Absence: Dallas Cowboys Face Uncertain Future
The Dallas Cowboys received unwelcome news on Monday as it was confirmed that quarterback Dak Prescott will be sidelined for multiple weeks due to a hamstring injury suffered during the team’s 27-21 loss to the Atlanta Falcons in Week 9.
According to reports from NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero and Ian Rapoport, Prescott’s injury is “worse than feared,” and there is a strong possibility that he will be placed on injured reserve. This development could significantly impact the Cowboys’ season, which is already off to a challenging start with a 3-5 record.
In Prescott’s absence, backup quarterback Cooper Rush is set to take over. Rush has a proven track record, having led the Cowboys to a 4-2 start in 2022 when Prescott was out with a thumb injury. Coach Mike McCarthy expressed confidence in Rush’s ability, highlighting his poise, efficiency, and leadership skills. Rush has a 5-1 record as a starter in the NFL and is well-respected by his teammates.
Additionally, wide receiver CeeDee Lamb is also dealing with an injury, specifically a right AC joint injury, but his status is described as “week-to-week,” offering some hope for a quicker return compared to Prescott.
The Cowboys are facing a critical period, with their next game against the Philadelphia Eagles in Week 10. The team’s performance without Prescott will be closely watched, and there are already discussions about whether the season is effectively over or if there is still a path to recovery.
