Marshawn Kneeland Dallas Cowboys Tribute

FRISCO, Texas — The Dallas Cowboys are preparing to honor their late defensive end Marshawn Kneeland, who died Thursday at age 24 from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound. The Cowboys will wear helmet decals and special T-shirts during upcoming games to commemorate Kneeland’s memory.

Players will first wear the special gear before their matchup against the Las Vegas Raiders on Nov. 17. Additional tributes, including a video tribute and moment of silence, are planned for their next home game against the Philadelphia Eagles on Nov. 23 at AT&T Stadium.

Executive Vice President Stephen Jones spoke about the tragedy while appearing on 105.3 The Fan in Dallas, expressing the profound impact Kneeland’s death has had on the organization. ‘Certainly, it puts everything into perspective,’ Jones said. ‘We’re playing a game that means a lot to many people, but there are things a lot more important than that.’

Kneeland was drafted in the second round of the 2024 NFL Draft from Western Michigan. Known for his passion and high motor on the field, he had accumulated 12 tackles and a sack in seven games this season. ‘He played with a high motor. He loved to get after it,’ Jones added.

The Cowboys returned to The Star on Monday for the first time since Kneeland’s death. Internal and external counselors are available to assist players, coaches, and staff during this difficult time. ‘This is very difficult; I can’t imagine for his family, teammates, and everyone who cared and loved Marshawn so much,’ Jones said.

The organization is working closely with Kneeland’s family to ensure that tributes align with their wishes. Kneeland’s girlfriend, Catalina, and family members are expected to attend the Eagles game.

As the NFL honored Kneeland during games over the weekend, Jones reflected on the significance of acknowledging the loss. ‘Whenever I’ve been involved in losing somebody, it always is good for your heart and soul when people observe moments of silence or send notes,’ he said. ‘We just want to honor Marshawn and do everything the very best way we can.’
