DALLAS — Jamie Benn, captain of the Dallas Stars, announced the birth of his first child, Knox Jay Benn, on Instagram Sunday. The couple welcomed Knox on April 3, making the announcement amid the excitement of the NHL playoffs.

“What a privilege it is to be his parents,” the Benns wrote in a joint post. “We are overwhelmed with love.” The announcement came just a day after the Stars lost to the Colorado Avalanche, 5-1, in Game 1 of their first-round playoff series.

This season has seen multiple Dallas Stars players celebrate new additions to their families. Earlier this year, forward Tyler Seguin and his wife, Kate, welcomed their daughter, Wren Katherine, in January.

On Monday, ahead of Game 2 against the Avalanche, Benn praised his wife’s support during this hectic season for both the team and their new family. “Obviously, our wives are MVPs this time of year. They log most of the dirty hours — the late nights,” he said, reflecting on the balance of parenthood and playoff preparation.

Benn had an impressive regular season, accumulating 49 points over 80 games, although he faced injury setbacks that briefly paused his streak of 371 consecutive games played.

As the Stars gear up for Game 2 at the American Airlines Center, Benn’s focus remains divided between his duties as team captain and his new role as a father. The upcoming games will mark not only a challenge on the ice but also a significant turning point in Benn’s life off the ice.
