Dallas Stars Face Red Wings in Critical Regular Season Finale

DETROIT, MI — The Dallas Stars will face the Detroit Red Wings on Monday, April 14, 2025, in what marks the second meeting of the season between the teams. With Dallas already clinching a playoff spot, the game holds weight for momentum going into the Stanley Cup playoffs.
The Stars currently sit second in the Central Division with a record of 50-24-6, while the Red Wings hold a sixth-place position in the Atlantic with a 37-35-7 record. Dallas last played on April 12, where they suffered a 5-3 loss against the Utah Mustangs.
After a series of five consecutive losses, Dallas looks to turn the tide before entering the playoffs against the Colorado Avalanche. “You’re going to go through peaks and valleys in a season, and we understand that,” said Stars center Matt Duchene. ”We need to get back to the basics and execute them.”
In their last matchup, the Stars secured a 4-1 victory against the Red Wings on January 20, 2025. Jason Robertson leads the Stars with 35 goals and 44 assists this season, while Dallas rookie Wyatt Johnston recently made headlines by scoring his 32nd goal, becoming the franchise’s first player under 21 to hit 70 points in a season.
Detroit’s Patrick Kane enters this contest with a competitive edge; he has accumulated 17 points (6 goals, 11 assists) over the last 15 games and stands third in team assists with 36. Historically, Kane has performed well against Dallas, racking up 76 points in 66 matchups against the Stars.
The Red Wings have been inconsistent this season, highlighted by a lackluster penalty kill that ranks last in the league at 69.5%. Despite this, their power play effectiveness, which stands at 27.2%, remains a strong suit. Conversely, the Stars possess a superior penalty kill at 82.4% and a power play rate of 22.8%.
Injuries will play a role in the Stars’ lineup with Thomas Harley, Esa Lindell, and Mason Marchment marked day-to-day. Coach Pete DeBoer mentioned the importance of depth: “There’s been some guys sitting around who haven’t gotten games who are getting action now. If we go where we want to go, we’re going to need a lot of people.”
The game is set to air at 6 p.m. CT at Little Caesars Arena and fans can tune in on NHL Network or 96.7 FM/1310 AM radio. Given both teams’ playoff ambitions, Monday’s game is shaping up to be a crucial battle for momentum heading into the postseason.
