Dallas Stars Edmonton Oilers Playoff Game

DALLAS, Texas — The Dallas Stars are gearing up for another shot at the Edmonton Oilers in the Western Conference Finals, beginning Wednesday at 8 p.m. ET. This matchup follows last year’s series, where the Oilers clinched victory in six games.

Stars forward Matt Duchene recently reflected on the team’s past playoff struggles, particularly the loss in Game 5 of last year’s finals. “That Game 5 was on my mind, and I kept the puck in my locker to remind me of how important every game can be,” Duchene said.

After eliminating the Winnipeg Jets 2-1 in overtime in Game 6 of the second round, the Stars feel hopeful about this opportunity. “We’ve been to this spot the last two years and haven’t taken the next step, so that’s the challenge,” said coach Pete DeBoer.

The Stars have been bolstered this season by new acquisitions, particularly Mikko Rantanen, who leads the playoffs with 19 points. Despite the team’s depth, several key players, including Duchene, are seeking to improve their goal-scoring efficiency.

<p“Honestly, it bothers you not scoring, but I feel great about my game right now,” Duchene noted. He has contributed five assists but is still looking for his first goal of the postseason.

In contrast, the Oilers have maintained strong performance metrics, winning eight of their last nine games. They boast a well-rounded attack, with every forward scoring in the playoffs. However, their penalty kill remains a concern, sitting at 66.7 percent for this postseason.

Looking forward to the series, both teams are better positioned than they were last year. The Stars aim to capitalize on home-ice advantage and hope to rectify their struggles on the road. Both teams face high expectations, but the Stars are eager to break through this postseason.

Game 1 is set to start Wednesday at American Airlines Center, as the Stars look to finally secure a spot in the Stanley Cup Finals.
