A coaching vacancy has arisen in the Women’s National Basketball Association (WNBA) as the Dallas Wings have announced the dismissal of head coach Latricia Trammell following two seasons with the team. “After an extensive review of our basketball operations department, which included interviews and conversations with stakeholders across the organization, I have made the decision to relieve Latricia Trammell of her head coaching duties with the Dallas Wings,” said Greg Bibb, president and CEO of the Wings, in a statement.

Trammell’s 2023 season with the Wings saw a successful 22-18 record, marking the franchise’s best performance since it was based in Detroit in 2008. However, the team faced setbacks in 2024, recording only nine wins against 31 losses. Contributing to the challenging season were injuries to key players, notably Satou Sabally, Maddy Siegrist, and Natasha Howard, coupled with Sabally’s commitment to the German national team for the Olympics.

Trammell is the fourth WNBA coach to be dismissed after the conclusion of the 2024 regular season. She joins Curt Miller of the Los Angeles Sparks, Tanisha Wright of the Atlanta Dream, and Teresa Weatherspoon of the Chicago Sky. Notably, Atlanta was the sole team among these whose performance secured them a place in the playoffs this year.

The Dallas Wings are undergoing significant organizational changes, with Amber Cox, the former Chief Operating Officer, having left to join the Golden State Valkyries as their COO and General Manager. In response, the Wings are actively searching for a new general manager who will be responsible for leading the recruitment of the next head coach.

As part of their forward-looking strategy, the Wings are preparing for their participation in the 2025 WNBA draft lottery, which is scheduled for November 17, as well as the Golden State Valkyries’ expansion draft on December 6. The team’s strategic moves also include plans to relocate from Texas-Arlington’s College Park Center to a new facility in downtown Dallas, enhancing their infrastructure with a new practice facility and a refurbished Dallas Memorial Coliseum.
