In a thrilling encounter, Altmaier showcased his skills by taking the first set after a closely contested battle and saving a set point. He managed to clinch the set 7-5, leaving Fritz stunned. Both players exchanged momentum in the second set, with Fritz leveling the match at one set apiece by winning 6-3.

However, from the third set onwards, Altmaier was in control. The 26-year-old German consistently applied pressure on Fritz, capitalizing on mistakes and converting crucial break points. Altmaier’s aggressive play led to a 6-3 win in the third set, marking a turning point in the match.

With confidence soaring, Altmaier dominated the fourth set, breaking Fritz’s serve multiple times and finishing the match decisively. He ended the match with an impressive tally of 46 winners compared to Fritz’s 34.

After the match, Altmaier spoke about his performance, saying, “I gave it my all out there. Beating a player like Fritz motivates me more.” He will now face Czech player Vit Kopriva in the second round, who advanced after a five-set match against Thiago Monteiro.
