Daniel Jones Signs with Minnesota Vikings After Leaving New York Giants
Former New York Giants quarterback Daniel Jones has officially signed with the Minnesota Vikings, according to sources. This move comes after Jones was waived by the Giants last week and cleared waivers on Monday.
Jones, who started 10 games for the Giants this season, threw for 2,070 yards, eight touchdowns, and seven interceptions, completing 63% of his passes. He also had 67 rush attempts for 265 yards and two touchdowns. Despite his performance, Jones and the Giants mutually decided to part ways.
The Vikings were among the top contenders for Jones’ services, with sources indicating that he preferred to sign with a playoff contender. Jones will initially join the Vikings’ practice squad but is expected to be promoted to the active roster once he becomes familiar with the team’s playbook.
Vikings Head Coach Kevin O’Connell, known for his work with quarterbacks, is seen as a key factor in Jones’ decision. Jones, 27, was the No. 6 overall pick in the 2019 NFL Draft and had signed a four-year, $160 million extension with the Giants in 2023.
The signing is significant for the Vikings, who are looking to bolster their quarterback depth and stability. Jones’ experience and skills are expected to be a valuable addition to the team as they pursue a strong season).
