Dartmouth Volleyball Falls to Penn in Four Sets

PHILADELPHIA, Pa. — The Dartmouth volleyball team faced off against the University of Pennsylvania on Friday night, struggling to maintain an early lead. Despite winning the first set, the Big Green ultimately lost the match in four sets.

Dartmouth started strong, winning the first set 25-22 after a tightly contested battle that featured eight ties and three lead changes. The Big Green held a slim lead at several points but managed to secure the set with a blocking effort from teammates.

In the second set, Dartmouth fought hard but fell short, losing 25-23. The set saw another tense contest with multiple ties. Dartmouth managed to close a deficit after calling two timeouts but could not regain complete control.

The third set was similarly challenging for Dartmouth as Penn extended their lead, winning 25-17. The Big Green struggled to keep pace with Penn, who capitalized on defensive lapses to take a 2-1 lead in sets.

It was in the fourth set that the match reached new heights of intensity. Winning the set required 29 points, with 13 ties and six lead changes. Once again, Dartmouth appeared poised to pull off a victory but ultimately succumbed to Penn’s strong finish, losing the set 29-27.

Kauany Gutz led the Big Green with a total of 14 kills and achieved a career-high 30 digs over the match. LaFata contributed 10 kills, while all players combined to secure a total of 12 blocks. The team now looks to bounce back as they face Princeton on Saturday evening.
