NEW YORK — Star wide receiver Davante Adams, whose tenure with the New York Jets has been underwhelming, has expressed interest in joining the Pittsburgh Steelers, citing his admiration for head coach Mike Tomlin. Adams, who was traded to the Jets from the Las Vegas Raiders during the 2024 NFL season, could be on the move again as the Jets face a disappointing offseason.

“100%, I love Mike,” Adams said when asked if he’d like to play for Tomlin. “Anytime you have a coach that’s a player’s coach and you can tell that they’ve got a way with their guys…those types of coaches always win me over.”

The Steelers, who failed to secure a top-tier wide receiver in 2024 despite trading for Mike Williams, are in dire need of offensive firepower. Adams, a seven-time Pro Bowler, has consistently produced over 1,000 receiving yards in each of the past seven seasons, making him an ideal target for Pittsburgh.

However, Adams’ potential move to the Steelers is complicated by his contract with the Jets, which runs through 2025. The Jets, who missed the playoffs in 2024, may look to trade Adams and his longtime teammate, quarterback Aaron Rodgers, as they consider a rebuild. Rodgers, who joined the Jets in 2023, was a key factor in Adams’ decision to leave the Raiders for New York.

Pittsburgh’s quarterback situation also remains uncertain. Russell Wilson, who had a mediocre 2024 season, is under contract, but the Steelers may explore other options, including Rodgers, should he become available. “If the Steelers are faced with an opportunity to bring in one or both players, they would be hard-pressed to pass up on it,” said an NFL insider.

Adams’ potential arrival in Pittsburgh could rejuvenate the Steelers’ offense, which has struggled since the departure of Antonio Brown. Pairing Adams with rising star George Pickens could create a formidable receiving duo. However, the Steelers must address their quarterback issues before making any significant moves.

Meanwhile, Adams has other options on the table, including a potential reunion with the Green Bay Packers or Las Vegas Raiders. “Davante Adams has plenty of options on the table,” said a source close to the player. “He could play for virtually any franchise he chooses.”

As the 2025 NFL offseason approaches, all eyes will be on Adams and the Jets to see if a separation is imminent. For the Steelers, the opportunity to land a player of Adams’ caliber could be a game-changer, but only if they can solve their quarterback dilemma.
