Davante Adams Returns to California, Signs with Rams for Fresh Start

EAST PALO ALTO, Calif. — Davante Adams, a six-time Pro Bowl wide receiver, is back on the West Coast after signing a two-year, $46 million contract with the Los Angeles Rams. After turbulent seasons with the Las Vegas Raiders and New York Jets, Adams is looking for stability and a successful environment.

In a recent interview, Adams expressed his hope for his new team. “Well, first I’ve got to make sure it’s not me,” he said with a smile. “If it gets dysfunctional, it means that I was the one making those organizations dysfunctional.” He emphasized the importance of joining a winning team and the optimism he feels about the Rams’ management and recent success.

Adams, who spent time vacationing in Japan during contract negotiations, noted the excitement of being pursued by the Rams. “It felt like I was on a recruiting trip again,” he said. “That was the most wanted, I think, I’ve felt in my career.” Rams coach Sean McVay and quarterback Matthew Stafford were among those who reached out to him.

Reflecting on his time with the Raiders, Adams recalled feeling blindsided when the team unexpectedly benched quarterback Derek Carr, his close friend and former college teammate. “You literally brought me here, you knew the reason why,” he remarked, expressing frustration over the situation.

Adams signed with the Raiders in 2022 under the premise of playing with Carr, but faced internal challenges that led him to seek a trade. After a disappointing tenure in New York where he caught 67 passes for 854 yards and seven touchdowns, Adams decided it was time for a change.

With the Rams, Adams joins a franchise with a winning culture and playoff pedigree. “This isn’t about reunions—it’s about results,” he said. Adams is determined to focus on chasing victories rather than past connections.

As the Rams prepare for the upcoming season, Adams expressed confidence in his abilities, stating, “I truly feel like I’m playing equal or better ball.” His focus now is on making an impact in a stable organization that emphasizes success.
