David Graham Golf Memorial Tournament 2026

Columbus, Ohio — Australian golfer David Graham, 79, has been selected to be the honoree for the 2026 Memorial Tournament. This recognition comes from the tournament’s Captains Club, highlighting Graham’s significant contributions to the sport.

Graham, who is known for being the first left-handed golfer to win multiple major tournaments, initially learned to play golf left-handed. At age 14, he switched to right-handed play after encouragement from a co-worker at a local pro shop. He turned professional in 1968 and quickly became a prominent figure in the sport.

He earned his PGA Tour card in 1971 and secured his first victory at the Cleveland Open in 1972. Over his career, Graham won eight times on the PGA Tour, including prestigious titles at the 1979 PGA Championship and the 1981 U.S. Open, among others.

“This is one of the greatest honors I have received,” said Graham, who was inducted into the World Golf Hall of Fame in 2015. He expressed his pride in being associated with the Memorial Tournament and Muirfield Village Golf Club.

One of Graham’s most memorable moments came at the Memorial Tournament, where he made a crucial 20-foot eagle putt to stay competitive against Tom Watson. In a dramatic finish, he sank a 30-foot birdie putt on the 18th hole, completing the tournament at 8-under 280, breaking the record set by Jack Nicklaus in 1977.

Watson praised Graham as “one of the toughest competitors on the tour,” while Nicklaus spoke of their long friendship and shared experiences in the game.

Graham’s legacy continues to inspire many in the golfing community, and his honor as the 2026 Memorial Tournament honoree reflects his impact on the sport.
