David Shaw New Orleans Saints Head Coach Interview

The New Orleans Saints are set to interview David Shaw for their head coaching vacancy, according to a report by Jane Slater of NFL Network. Shaw, currently a senior personnel executive for the Denver Broncos, previously served as Stanford‘s head coach for 12 years, where he compiled a 96-54 record and won four Pac-12 Coach of the Year awards.

Shaw’s tenure at Stanford included five bowl victories and the development of notable quarterbacks such as Andrew Luck and Davis Mills. His NFL experience spans roles as an assistant coach with the Philadelphia Eagles, Baltimore Ravens, and the then-Oakland Raiders. Shaw joined the Broncos in June 2024, contributing to their 10-7 record and playoff berth, ending a postseason drought dating back to 2015.

The Saints, who finished the 2024 season with a 5-12 record, have not made the playoffs since 2020. The team fired head coach Dennis Allen mid-season and are considering several candidates, including Mike Vrabel, Aaron Glenn, and Matt Nagy. Shaw, who has never been an NFL head coach, brings a strong track record of quarterback development and program-building to the table.

Shaw’s last coaching role was at Stanford in 2022, where he went 14-28 in his final four seasons after a strong start. Despite this, his overall success and NFL experience make him a compelling candidate for the Saints as they look to rebuild and return to playoff contention.
