SACRAMENTO, Calif. — UC Davis basketball is gearing up for a pivotal week in its regular season schedule as the Aggies prepare to face UC Riverside and UC San Diego in Big West Conference play.
Aggies head coach Jim Les spoke on The Carmichael Dave Show with Jason Ross Wednesday morning, reflecting on the team’s recent two-game winning streak and their focus on the upcoming matchups. Les emphasized a ‘one day at a time’ approach, stating, “We need to stay focused on our game plan and take it step by step.”
Last Saturday, UC Davis secured a solid victory over Cal State Fullerton, defeating the Titans 65-49, showcasing a dominant defensive performance that held their opponents to a season-low in points. The Aggies improved their record to 14-10 overall and 8-5 in conference play.
Les praised his players for their commitment on both sides of the court. “Our defense played exceptionally well, and that set the tone for the game,” he said. The Aggies’ leading scorer recorded a double-double, continuing his streak of eight straight games with 20 or more points.
Upcoming on the schedule, the Aggies will face a six-win UC Riverside team on February 14 before traveling to play UC San Diego on February 17. With each game critical as the season winds down, Les’ squad is keenly aware of the stakes involved.
“It’s all about execution and maintaining our intensity,” Les added. “We need to keep building on our momentum.”
The Aggies’ next opponents provide a unique challenge, and Les expressed confidence in his team’s preparations. “Every game is a new opportunity to grow and prove ourselves,” he said.
Fans and analysts alike will be watching how UC Davis continues to evolve in Big West competition, especially as they aim for a strong finish to secure a favorable position in the upcoming conference tournament.
