Defending Champions Gear Up For Wimbledon As Djokovic Returns From Injury

The anticipation is high as the defending champions, Andy Murray, and Marketa Vondrousova, prepare to kick off their Wimbledon campaign at the prestigious All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club in London.

Murray, a two-time Wimbledon champion, announced that this tournament will mark his farewell at the AELTC. He is set to face Czechia’s Tomas Machac in the opening round, amidst a backdrop of recent injuries and a surgical procedure on his back.

On the men’s side, all eyes are on the return of Novak Djokovic, the seven-time Wimbledon champion who is making a comeback after a knee injury suffered during the French Open. The men’s field is wide open, with the likes of Jannik Sinner and Carlos Alcaraz emerging as top contenders for the title.

In the women’s singles category, the spotlight shines on Iga Swiatek and Coco Gauff, who are considered favorites in a field that has seen a new champion in each of the last six editions at Wimbledon, including Vondrousova’s surprise victory last year.

Indian tennis fans will have their eyes on Sumit Nagal, who is set to become the first Indian man since Prajnesh Gunneswaran in 2019 to feature in the main draw of the men’s singles at Wimbledon. Nagal, ranked 72nd, faces Serbia’s Miomir Kecmanovic in his debut main-draw match at the Championships.

Notable past champions such as Roger Federer, Martina Navratilova, Jana Novotna, and Petra Kvitova have left their mark at Wimbledon, adding to the prestigious history of the tournament, broadcasted live on Disney+Hotstar and the Star Sports Network.
