Houston Cougars Basketball Team Celebrating Victory

HOUSTON, Texas — Cornerback J.J. DeJean has made bold NCAA Championship predictions as Selection Sunday approaches. With brackets flooding in, DeJean declared his favorites for this year’s tournament, naming Houston his pick for the national champion.

DeJean’s Final Four predictions include powerhouse programs alongside a few surprises. He believes No. 2 Michigan State will overcome No. 1 Auburn in the South region and sees No. 1 Florida surpassing No. 3 Texas Tech in the West. Meanwhile, in the East, he predicts No. 1 Duke will defeat No. 6 BYU and No. 1 Houston will edge out No. 3 Kentucky in the Midwest.

When asked about his national champion choice, DeJean confidently selected Houston, stating, “They’ve shown all season they’re a championship contender.” The Cougars concluded their season with a remarkable 30-4 record and captured the Big 12 title, having dropped just one game since December—a tight contest against Texas Tech.

The Cougars owe much of their success to a formidable defense that allows an average of just 58.5 points per game, ranking them among the nation’s elite. Senior guard L.J. Cryer has emerged as a key player, leading the team at 15.2 points per game. “With Cryer stepping up in critical moments, Houston has a reliable go-to guy,” DeJean added.

Furthermore, Houston boasts a significant advantage in road games, becoming the only team in the nation to remain undefeated in away contests this season. This ability to perform in high-pressure environments could prove vital as the tournament unfolds.

As the NCAA tournament gears up, the anticipation mounts to see if DeJean’s forecast holds true and if Houston can bring home its first NCAA title. Should they succeed, DeJean may find himself celebrating a championship from the sidelines.
