WASHINGTON, D.C. — Delaware and UNC Wilmington secured spots in the Coastal Athletic Association Championship finals after thrilling semifinal victories on March 10, 2025. Delaware defeated Towson 82-72, while UNC Wilmington edged out Charleston 68-67.

Delaware’s victory was powered by strong performances from Timko and Middleton. Timko scored 15 points and grabbed six rebounds, leading the Blue Hens (16-19). Middleton contributed 14 points, finishing 7 of 8 at the free-throw line and adding eight rebounds. Delaware maintained a narrow lead at halftime, 36-32, before a strong second-half effort, including 12 points from Timko.

“We knew we had to come out strong in the second half,” Timko said. “The team really rallied together, and it showed on the court.”

For the Tigers (22-11), a standout performance came from their leading scorer, who finished with 23 points and four assists. Despite their efforts, Towson could not overcome Delaware’s late-game surge.

In the nightcap, UNC Wilmington staged a dramatic comeback to secure their win over Charleston (24-9). The Seahawks (26-7) were led by a clutch performance from Newby, who scored 24 points and hit two key free throws with just three seconds left on the clock.

“It was all about keeping my composure in those last moments,” Newby stated. “Every possession counted, and I’m glad we pulled it off.”

Charleston, facing a halftime deficit of 10 points, fought back with significant contributions from Boyd, who led the Cougars with 18 points and eight rebounds. The game saw numerous lead changes in the final minutes, with Charleston briefly leading 64-61 before UNC Wilmington regained control.

The championship matchup will see Delaware facing UNC Wilmington at 10 a.m. on March 11, with an automatic berth to the NCAA Tournament at stake. Delaware had advanced through the tournament defeating Stony Brook, Campbell, William & Mary, and finally Towson over four consecutive days.

“We have a chance to make history and go to the Big Dance,” said Delaware coach. “We are ready for this challenge.”

The winner will earn the league’s automatic berth in the NCAA Tournament, making this matchup pivotal for both teams. The stage is set for an exciting conclusion to the CAA tournament.
