Track drying operations are in full swing at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway following a heavy rainstorm that swept through Central Indiana earlier today. The 108th running of the Indianapolis 500 presented by Gainbridge is now tentatively scheduled to take place later this afternoon.

IMS President J. Douglas Boles announced that the track drying process began at 2:30 p.m. ET, with an estimated duration of about two hours. The iconic 2.5-mile oval is being meticulously prepared to host the highly anticipated race, thrilling motorsports enthusiasts worldwide.

Despite the necessary delay, specific elements of the pre-race ceremonies are still on the agenda. Spectators can look forward to the moving military rifle volley and rendition of “Taps,” as well as performances of “God Bless America” and the national anthem.

Additionally, the traditional flyover by the U.S. Air Force Thunderbirds, a fan-favorite display of aerial prowess, is set to captivate the audience. The stirring performance of “Back Home Again in Indiana” will further add to the race day excitement.

Local broadcaster WTHR, the Indianapolis NBC affiliate, has committed to televising the event live within Central Indiana. This decision comes as a response to the unforeseen delay caused by the inclement weather, ensuring that viewers can witness the iconic race in real-time.
