Delhi Capitals Ipl 2025 Team News

VISAKHAPATNAM, India — The availability of KL Rahul for the Delhi CapitalsIPL opener against Lucknow Super Giants remains uncertain as the team prepares for the 2025 season. Capitals’ captain Axar Patel confirmed that Rahul has joined the team but cited ‘personal’ reasons for his potential absence.

“Obviously, he joined the team,” Patel said during a press conference. “We don’t know yet if he’ll play. Right now, we don’t know if he is available or not.” The opener is set to take place on Monday, heightening the anticipation about the team’s lineup as they approach the start of the tournament.

As Delhi prepares to face LSG, Patel emphasized the need for the team to adapt to the evolving dynamics of T20 cricket. After an exceptional performance last season, where Sunrisers Hyderabad posted a record 287 runs in a single match, the stakes are high.

“Nowadays cricket has changed a lot,” Patel remarked. “Mostly the IPL is about the batsman’s game—fours and sixes. We have to evolve as a team. I don’t want to complicate things. As captain, I told the group that cricket is a game; keep it simple. A good yorker is a good yorker, and if your execution is good, then you will be fine.”

Patel, who took over the captaincy from Rishabh Pant, highlighted that strategies should adapt according to match situations rather than a fixed game plan. “We have to change the plan according to the situation which I learned from last season,” he added.

Along with changes in team strategy, the introduction of new rules aimed at balancing the game between bat and ball has been welcomed by both Patel and Capitals’ coach. One new rule allows bowlers to begin the second innings with a fresh ball to combat dew, particularly in evening matches.

“The IPL is all about the batsmen nowadays,” Patel stated. “If we get something for the bowlers, it’s very nice to see. Now we can allow saliva, and if something is there for the bowlers, it’s great for the game. These are good rules, and it might make it easier for bowlers to stop the runs.”

Despite not having secured an IPL title in the league’s 17-year history, the Capitals are hopeful about this season. With experience from veteran players like Faf du Plessis and Rahul himself, Patel believes there is potential for a successful campaign. “I am very confident about the Delhi Capitals team. It’s an honor for me to lead this franchise. We have many leaders in our team, and from them, I get that experience.”

Patel concluded, emphasizing a collective team spirit and readiness to embrace the challenges ahead: “Our mindset is going there to express ourselves, be fearless. We are all ready to give our 100%, and the atmosphere here in the DC family is fantastic. We are ready to roll.”
