Delhi Capitals Vs Up Warriorz Wpl February 2025

Vadodara, India – The Delhi Capitals Women clinched a thrilling seven-wicket victory over the UP Warriorz Women in the sixth match of the Women’s Premier League (WPL) on February 19, 2025. Chasing a target of 167, the Capitals finished the match at 167 for 3 with only one ball to spare.

After winning the toss and opting to field first, the Delhi Capitals were put under pressure early on by a blistering knock from UP Warriorz’s KP Navgire, who scored 51 runs off just 27 balls. However, the Warriorz struggled in the middle and lower order, finishing at 166 for 7.

Capitals’ skipper Meg Lanning starred in the run chase, amassing 69 runs off 49 balls, supported by a crucial innings from Annabel Sutherland, who contributed an unbeaten 41 runs off 35 deliveries. Their partnership was pivotal in stabilizing the innings after the fall of early wickets.

Commenting on her performance, Lanning said, “I felt positive from the first ball. We had some world-class players out there [in the closing stages of the chase] and thought we were on for 200 after the first six overs!” Sutherland was named Player of the Match for her all-round performance, which also featured two wickets for 26 runs in her spell.

Despite a strong start, the Warriorz faltered in the latter half of their innings, losing wickets at critical moments which hindered their scoring momentum. Deepti Sharma, the UP Warriorz captain, noted, “We lost back-to-back wickets; otherwise, the total could have been different. The fielding lapses cost us the game; it’s part of the game, though.”

In the final overs, the Capitals kept their nerves under pressure, needing 32 runs off 18 balls, and finishing off with a flurry of boundaries from Sutherland and Marizanne Kapp, who also played a pivotal role with a swift 27 runs off 15 balls.

The match saw a plethora of dropped catches from the Warriorz, which they will need to rectify if they are to bounce back in the tournament. “Fielding has cost the game for UPW; nothing more nothing less,” noted analyst Malli during the commentary.

As the tournament progresses, the Capitals improved their standing within the series while the Warriorz are left searching for answers following two consecutive losses. The WPL now heads to Bengaluru for the next fixtures, promising more exciting cricket ahead.
