Denny McCarthy Prepares for 89th Masters Tournament at Augusta National

Augusta, Georgia – The prestigious Masters Tournament returns to Augusta National Golf Club, beginning Thursday, April 10th, welcoming 95 golfers, including University of Virginia alumnus Denny McCarthy, who aims to improve on his performance from last year.
McCarthy, 32, will be competing for the second consecutive year at the Masters. After turning pro in 2015, McCarthy made a significant impact on the PGA Tour. He was a standout player at the University of Virginia (UVa), where he achieved three-time All-American status and logged 21 top-ten finishes during his collegiate career.
Notable achievements at UVa include an impressive 63 in the opening round of the U.S. Collegiate Golf Championship and a sixth-place finish at the NCAA Championships in his junior year. His amateur success continued as he finished 42nd at the 2015 U.S. Open and then transitioned to the Korn Ferry Tour, where he recorded four top-ten finishes.
McCarthy’s journey through professional golf has been marked by consistency. He secured his PGA Tour card for the 2017-18 season after finishing 12th on the Korn Ferry Tour Finals money list. Once on the PGA Tour, McCarthy recorded four top-25 finishes in his rookie year and has qualified for the FedEx Cup Playoffs every year since the 2018-19 season.
Renowned for his putting skills, McCarthy has been recognized as one of the best putters on tour, clinching the first position in strokes gained in putting during both the 2018-19 and 2019-20 seasons. As of 2025, he ranks 10th in total putting, with the season in its early stages.
In his most recent outings, McCarthy’s best result in 2025 was a fifth-place finish at the Genesis Invitational. Currently placed 40th in the Official World Golf Ranking, he hopes to enhance that standing after his last appearance at Augusta, where he finished 45th with an overall score of +9.
As he prepares to tee off this weekend, McCarthy will join fellow golfers Charl Schwartzel and Hiroshi Tai. The first round is slated for 11:49 a.m., followed by a second round tee-off at 8:35 a.m. on Friday.
