Dense Fog Advisory in Matagorda Bay, Texas: What to Expect

MATAGORDA BAY, Texas — A dense fog advisory remains in effect until at least 9 a.m. CST this morning, significantly impacting visibility in the area.
Officials warn that dense fog will reduce visibility to less than one nautical mile, creating hazardous conditions for navigation. The advisory specifically affects Matagorda Bay, where mariners should exercise caution due to the low visibility.
The advisory extends to multiple coastal counties, including Bee, Calhoun, Kleberg, Nueces, Refugio, and San Patricio, among others. Motorists in these areas should slow down, keep headlights on, and maintain a safe distance from vehicles ahead, as visibility may drop to a quarter mile or less.
The National Weather Service indicated that conditions could improve after sunrise; however, an extension of the advisory could be necessary if fog lingers longer than expected.
“If you must navigate or drive during this time, proceed with extreme caution,” a weather service representative advised. “Utilize all available navigational tools, including radar and compasses, and ensure all running lights are functional.”
In addition to the bay, brief stretches of fog are expected over adjacent land areas late tonight and into the early morning, prompting ongoing vigilance from local sailors and drivers.
Residents and travelers are advised to stay updated through local weather reports and heed any further advisories. Safety should be the primary concern as visibility issues can lead to accidents on the road as well as at sea.
