Denver Broncos Trent Sherfield Nfl Signing

DENVER, Colo. — The Denver Broncos have secured wide receiver Trent Sherfield on a two-year contract worth up to $8 million, bolstering their receiver corps ahead of the new NFL season. This signing was confirmed by a league source on Tuesday evening as teams around the league finalize free agency moves.

Sherfield, a 29-year-old veteran, entered the league as an undrafted free agent in 2018 from Vanderbilt and has previously played for Arizona, San Francisco, Miami, Buffalo, and Minnesota. He recorded his best season in 2022 with the Dolphins, tallying 30 receptions for 417 yards and two touchdowns.

Last season with the Vikings, Sherfield managed eight catches for 83 yards and a touchdown across all 17 games. His experience extends beyond receiving; he also played a key role on special teams, including 1,252 snaps throughout his career.

The move comes as the Broncos look to offset the loss of Tremon Smith, a standout gunner, who signed with the Houston Texans on Monday. Sherfield will join a crowded receiving corps, which includes Courtland Sutton, Marvin Mims, Devaughn Vele, and Troy Franklin, aiming to provide quarterback Bo Nix with reliable targets in his second season.

Broncos’ Head Coach Sean Payton expressed hopes for Sherfield to contribute significantly, particularly in special teams, where his prior performance suggests he could fill a vital role. Last season, Sherfield showcased his versatility, making him an asset to an already evolving roster.

As the league opens up for transactions and trades, Sherfield is set to be the third outside free agent to join the Broncos this offseason, alongside safety Tafanoa Hufanga and linebacker Dre Greenlaw.

The Broncos have positioned themselves for a competitive run in the upcoming season with these strategic acquisitions ahead of the official start of the new league year.
