On October 6, 2024, the much-anticipated Derby of Eternal Rivals between Panathinaikos and Olympiacos ended in a goalless draw at the Olympic Stadium of Athens. Over 50,000 fans witnessed a closely contested match that was rich in high-stakes drama but ultimately devoid of goals.

The derby, renowned as Greece’s biggest football rivalry, saw both Panathinaikos and Olympiacos create several opportunities without finding the back of the net. The encounter was marked by its competitive nature, offering thrilling moments but lacking the finishing touch needed for a score.

Elsewhere in the Greek Super League, AEK Athens faced defeat at the hands of Panetolikos, losing 1-0 away. Miguel Luis scored the decisive goal in the 73rd minute, following a cross from Haris Mavrias. This result saw Panetolikos climb to fifth in the league standings.

PAOK capitalized on these outcomes to take the lead in the Super League. They secured a 2-0 victory over Levadiakos with goals from Mady Camara and Stefan Schwab. PAOK’s win propelled them from second to first place, having survived a missed penalty by Levadiakos in the match.

Aris Thessaloniki is now joint second in the standings along with AEK Athens and Olympiacos, following a 2-0 triumph over Lamia. Aris’ victory was powered by a first-half brace from Loren Moron, the league’s current top scorer.

In other league matches, OFI Crete moved to joint fifth after defeating Panserraikos 3-2 away. Asteras Tripolis climbed to seventh by defeating Kallithea 3-1, who played most of the game with only ten men. Volos secured a comeback 2-1 win against Atromitos.

The current Super League standings find PAOK on top with 16 points, while AEK, Aris, and Olympiacos each have 14 points. Panetolikos and OFI follow with 11 points, and Panathinaikos along with Asteras Tripolis have accumulated nine points each.

The league will now pause for a couple of weeks to accommodate the Nations League matches.
