Derek Dixon Tyler Perry Lawsuit

LOS ANGELES, California — Actor Derek Dixon has filed a lawsuit against Tyler Perry, seeking $260 million in damages, alleging sexual harassment, assault, and retaliation. The complaint was filed on June 13 in Los Angeles Superior Court.

In the lawsuit, Dixon accuses Perry of creating a “coercive, sexually exploitative dynamic” while Dixon starred in Perry’s shows, The Oval and Ruthless. Dixon claims Perry promised him career advancement, only to subject him to escalating harassment when he did not reciprocate Perry’s advances.

Dixon alleges that his relationship with Perry began in 2019 when he was offered a role in Ruthless. He claims that in January 2020, Perry sexually assaulted him at Perry’s home in Atlanta, and during casting discussions for The Oval, made threatening remarks about the character he played, Dale.

According to Dixon, Perry allegedly sent him sexually suggestive text messages and pressured him into uncomfortable situations, leading to a decrease in Dixon’s mental health. The actor also claimed he suffered from severe stress-related symptoms and was diagnosed with post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD).

Perry’s attorney, Matthew Boyd, has denied the allegations, claiming they are a “scam” and expressing confidence that the lawsuit will fail. “Tyler will not be shaken down,” Boyd said in a statement.

Dixon’s complaint includes multiple counts, including quid pro quo sexual harassment and emotional distress. He is also seeking a jury trial and punitive damages. The lawsuit poses significant implications for Perry, who is known for his influential role in the entertainment industry.

The case is currently in its early stages, and PEOPLE has reached out to representatives for Perry for further comment.
