Derek Stingley Jr. Named AP First Team All-Pro for Houston Texans
HOUSTON – Houston Texans cornerback Derek Stingley Jr. has been named to the Associated Press First Team All-Pro for the 2024 NFL season, the AP announced today. This marks Stingley’s first All-Pro First Team selection, capping a standout year where he started all 17 games and posted career-high statistics.
Stingley recorded 54 total tackles, 18 passes defensed, four tackles for loss, and tied for the team lead with five interceptions. His five interceptions ranked fourth in the NFL, while his 18 passes defensed were the second-most in the league. According to NextGenStats, Stingley allowed the lowest passer rating (56.9) and the lowest completion percentage (46.7%) among cornerbacks with at least 400 coverage snaps.
In Week 15, Stingley delivered a historic performance with five tackles, two tackles for loss, two interceptions, and two passes defensed. This made him the first cornerback in NFL history to achieve such a stat line in a single game, earning him the AFC Defensive Player of the Week award for the second time in his career.
Stingley is the first cornerback in Texans franchise history to earn AP All-Pro First Team honors. He joins J.J. Watt as the only defensive players in team history to receive the award and is the first Texan to be named All-Pro since DeAndre Hopkins in 2019.
“Derek has been a game-changer for us this season,” said Texans head coach DeMeco Ryans. “His ability to shut down opposing receivers and make big plays has been instrumental to our success.”
Stingley’s performance has solidified his reputation as one of the league’s premier defensive backs, and his recognition as an All-Pro further cements his place in Texans history.
