Derek Stingley Jr. Sparks Skirmish in Texans’ Loss to Seahawks

HOUSTON, Texas — Derek Stingley Jr. sparked a sideline skirmish during the Houston Texans‘ game against the Seattle Seahawks on Monday night, which the Texans ultimately lost 27-19. With just under eight minutes remaining in the fourth quarter, Stingley intercepted Seahawks quarterback Sam Darnold, marking the fourth turnover for the night.
As Stingley attempted to convert the interception into a stronger field position for Houston, he collided with Seattle wide receiver Jaxon Smith-Njigba. This resulted in Stingley stiff-arming Smith-Njigba and ripping off his helmet, igniting a physical confrontation on the Texans’ sideline that involved linebacker Christian Harris.
The altercation drew a 15-yard penalty against Stingley for unnecessary roughness, further exacerbating the Texans’ struggles on offense. The Texans came into the game looking to secure their third consecutive victory after erasing an 0-3 start to their season.
Despite turnovers plaguing both teams, the Seahawks maintained control throughout, leading at halftime 14-6. Darnold threw for 134 yards and a touchdown, while C.J. Stroud of the Texans managed only 106 yards with no touchdowns, struggling against Seattle’s defense.
“We had our chances, but we couldn’t capitalize,” said Stroud after the game. “We need to be better; it’s frustrating when your defense is doing their job, and we can’t convert.” The Texans’ defense recorded multiple turnovers, yet the offense couldn’t capitalize, hindering their comeback attempts.
Seattle’s Jaxon Smith-Njigba was instrumental, finishing the game with eight catches for 123 yards and a touchdown, solidifying his role as a primary target for Darnold. “We’re building chemistry every game,” said Smith-Njigba, reflecting on his performance.
Late in the fourth quarter, with just two minutes left, the Texans found themselves down by eight points. However, they failed to score on a pivotal fourth-and-goal play after Stroud’s pass fell incomplete.
The Texans will look to regroup as they try to turn their season around with another tough matchup ahead.
