Desert Highlands Golf Course Restoration

SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. — Desert Highlands is investing $10 million in a restoration project for its Nicklaus Design golf course. The course closed on April 28 and is set to reopen in November.

Ranked by Golfweek’s Best, Desert Highlands ties for 143rd among golf courses in the United States. The course previously hosted the Skins Game in 1983-84.

A significant aspect of the restoration is the rebuilding of all greens. The elevation of the putting surfaces will be adjusted to harmonize with nearby moguls and bowls, allowing for more diverse hole locations. The greens will be planted with 007XL Creeping Bentgrass.

The project also includes tee reconstruction, bunker renovations using Flexxscape lining, vegetation work, and turf restoration. Several holes will see design modifications or additional tees introduced, and enhancements will be made to Desert Highlands’ putting course as well.

“This restoration is about more than golf. It’s about preserving our legacy while building an even brighter future,” said Desi Speh, general manager of Desert Highlands, in a media release. “With the world-renowned Nicklaus Design team, our builder Heritage Links, and the support of our members, we are committed to preserving the timeless character of our course while introducing thoughtful enhancements that will elevate the golf experience for years to come.”
