Deshaun Watson Cleveland Browns Injury Update

Cleveland, OH

Deshaun Watson’s future with the Cleveland Browns is unclear as the team assesses its quarterback situation. Watson suffered a torn Achilles in October against the Cincinnati Bengals. In January, a reinjury during his recovery led to a second surgery, leaving him sidelined indefinitely.

The Browns have not provided a specific timeline for Watson’s return, but reports suggest he will miss a significant part of the 2025 season. Despite his injury, Watson has remained active at the team facility and is said to be contributing in other ways. “He’s working really hard. Doing a nice job in his rehab,” Browns head coach Kevin Stefanski noted. “Doing a great job in the meeting room as well.”

Watson has recently progressed to being out of his walking boot, marking a positive step in his recovery journey. However, the outlook remains challenging. Even if he returns, his role as the starting quarterback is uncertain, which is surprising given his $230 million contract that extends through 2026.

Browns ownership has reportedly viewed acquiring Watson as a “swing and miss,” signaling a potential search for a replacement. In his three seasons with the team, Watson has started 19 games with a record of 9-10, passing for 3,365 yards, 19 touchdowns, and 12 interceptions, achieving a passer rating of 80.7.

The Browns have multiple quarterbacks competing for the starting job, including veterans like Joe Flacco and rookies Shedeur Sanders and Dillon Gabriel.
