Deshaun Watson Nfl Sidelines Debut

LAS VEGAS — Deshaun Watson will make his first road trip of the season to support rookie quarterback Shedeur Sanders during his NFL starting debut against the Las Vegas Raiders this Sunday, according to a league source. Watson, who has been recovering from a re-ruptured Achilles, has finally reached a point where he can be on the sideline for a game.

Currently on the reserve/physically unable to perform list, Watson has shared workout videos on social media showing himself moving with agility and throwing the ball. He has expressed confidence in returning stronger after undergoing surgeries on his shoulder and Achilles.

Browns head coach Kevin Stefanski stated the team might choose to wait until the offseason program in April to fully activate Watson, allowing him time to recover properly. However, as he progresses in rehabilitation, the team could open his 21-day practice window sooner. If they choose to activate him, they have 21 days to move him onto the 53-man roster.

In addition to his rehabilitation, Watson has provided extensive support for both Sanders and rookie Dillon Gabriel during team meetings and practices this season. When Sanders practiced with the first-team offense, Watson assisted him in understanding the game plan ahead of the Raiders matchup.

Quarterbacks coach Bill Musgrave praised Watson’s commitment, saying, “It’s great to have his presence on the sideline for our young group.” He further highlighted Watson’s rigorous training and improvement, noting his consistent efforts in the weight room and on the field.

Watson’s presence is especially significant for Sanders, who is stepping in after Gabriel suffered a concussion. Zappe, currently on the practice squad, will serve as the backup for Sanders. Sanders has expressed determination to make a strong impression, saying, “I know our fans have a lot of expectations… I feel like I’m the guy, I know I’m the guy.”

The Browns have struggled on the road this season but are optimistic Watson’s support can bolster their younger players. With the eyes of the fans and the organization on both Watson and Sanders, Cleveland’s road match against the Raiders promises to be pivotal.
