Angels Vs Mariners Baseball Game

ANAHEIM, California – Angels pitcher Reid Detmers faced a challenging feat on Wednesday, May 1, 2025, as he entered the game against the Seattle Mariners in the seventh inning. With the score tied 2-2, Detmers was called upon to help secure a win but instead delivered one of the roughest outings of his career.

Detmers, who was 0-1 prior to the game, entered the contest with a promising season ERA of 2.57. However, things quickly unraveled when the first two batters reached base after a pair of infield and bunt singles. The lefty failed to find his rhythm and soon gave up three more hits, including a double from Mariners star Julio Rodriguez.

Despite not recording a single out, Detmers was charged with five runs, raising his season ERA to 5.79. His inability to retire a batter prompted the Angels to pull him from the game almost immediately, leaving fans and coaches disappointed.

“It was a tough situation, and unfortunately, it didn’t go my way,” said Detmers following the game. “I was just hoping to keep the game close, but it turned into a rough outing.”

The first-round pick from the 2020 First-Year Player Draft is making the switch to a relief role this season after starting his career as a starting pitcher. He had previously shown promise with 14 strikeouts against just five walks over 14 innings.

As Detmers works through this transition, Angels fans hope that he can regain his form and contribute positively moving forward.
