Detroit Lions' Cameron Sutton Wanted In Florida On Domestic Violence Charge

The Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office has issued a warrant for Detroit Lions‘ cornerback Cameron Sutton in connection with a domestic violence incident in Lutz, Florida. The warrant stems from an alleged altercation on March 7, where Sutton is accused of domestic battery by strangulation. The sheriff’s office reported that the victim sustained visible injuries during the incident.

Phil Martello, a spokesperson for the sheriff’s office, mentioned that they responded to a call regarding the domestic violence situation involving Sutton and a female around 5 a.m. on the aforementioned date. Following an investigation, an arrest warrant was promptly issued on the same day. Despite efforts to locate Sutton, including tracking a Jeep Grand Wagoneer believed to be driven by him, authorities have been unable to apprehend him thus far.

The Detroit Lions released a statement acknowledging the legal matter involving Sutton and affirmed that they are monitoring the situation closely. Sutton, who joined the Lions last season after spending six years with the Pittsburgh Steelers, had a mixed performance in 2023. While starting all 17 regular season games, he faced challenges towards the latter part of the season and in playoff matchups against top receivers.

In response to Sutton’s legal issue, the Lions made moves to bolster their secondary by trading for Carlton Davis III and signing Amik Robertson in free agency. Davis is anticipated to take on the role of the team’s primary cornerback alongside Sutton, with Emmanuel Moseley and Robertson serving as key backups.

Sutton, who is slated to earn $10.5 million this upcoming season, carries a significant cap hit for 2024. As the investigation continues, the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office has urged anyone with information on Sutton’s whereabouts to contact them directly.
