Detroit Lions Sign Grant Stuard to One-Year Deal

Detroit, MI — The Detroit Lions have reportedly signed linebacker Grant Stuard to a one-year, fully guaranteed contract, according to NFL insider Aaron Wilson. The specific terms of the deal have not been disclosed.
Stuard, a seventh-round draft pick from the 2021 NFL Draft, began his career with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, where he played for one season before joining the Indianapolis Colts. Throughout his four seasons in the NFL, Stuard has primarily focused on special teams, amassing 1,306 total special teams snaps, with no fewer than 260 snaps recorded in each season.
During the previous season, Stuard saw an increase in defensive roles, starting six games and recording 40 tackles, two tackles for loss, and a solid 69.4 Pro Football Focus (PFF) grade. His standout performance came during a week seven victory, where he achieved a personal best of 19 tackles.
“He’s a guy that comes in every day and works his tail off,” said a former coach regarding Stuard. “And he got his opportunity and made the most of it.” Despite being on the smaller side at 5-foot-11 and 230 pounds, his athletic ability has allowed him to compete effectively against larger opponents.
Stuard joins a competitive linebacker group in Detroit, which has several players capable of contributing on special teams. However, the situation creates an opening, as the Lions are anticipated to release former special teams captain Jalen Reeves-Maybin. As a result, Stuard will vie for a roster spot against players such as Ezekiel Turner, Anthony Pittman, Abraham Beauplan, and DaRon Gilbert.
