Detroit Tigers on Verge of Advancing in ALDS Series Against Cleveland Guardians
The Detroit Tigers are poised to secure a second postseason series victory in the 2024 MLB playoffs as they prepare to face the Cleveland Guardians on Thursday night at Comerica Park. The Tigers have taken a commanding 2-1 lead in the American League Division Series (ALDS) after a decisive 3-0 win over the Guardians on Wednesday night.
Following impressive performances, the Tigers are eager to continue their unexpected playoff run. Tigers pitcher Reese Olson is set to make his first career postseason start after appearing as a reliever in Game 1, where he pitched five strong innings. “We’re ready to give it our all,” said Olson. The game will be broadcast on TNT and available for streaming via Sling TV.
The Tigers’ bullpen approach has been effective, with the team shutting out Cleveland for 20 consecutive innings. “Our pitchers have stepped up, and our defense has been spectacular,” commented Tigers Manager. Offensively, Detroit has seen contributions across the lineup with key players like Riley Greene, Matt Vierling, and Spencer Torkelson each providing critical RBIs.
Cleveland’s Tanner Bibee will be making his second start in the series, aiming to replicate his previous success from Game 1 when he delivered 4⅔ scoreless innings. The Guardians face a critical challenge as they attempt to revitalize their offense which has struggled, going 0-for-8 with runners in scoring position in the previous game.
Should the Tigers clinch the series, they would advance to the American League Championship Series (ALCS) for the first time in 11 years, awaiting the winner of the series between the New York Yankees and the Kansas City Royals. The Yankees currently hold a 2-1 series lead.
The anticipated Game 4 will commence at 6:08 p.m. Eastern Time at Comerica Park in Detroit. Brian Anderson and Jeff Francoeur will provide the commentary for the televised broadcast.
The lineup for the Tigers in Game 4 includes Parker Meadows (CF), Kerry Carpenter (DH), Matt Vierling (RF), Riley Greene (LF), Colt Keith (2B), Spencer Torkelson (1B), Zach McKinstry (3B), Trey Sweeney (SS), and Jake Rogers (C). The Guardians will field Steven Kwan (LF), Kyle Manzardo (DH), José Ramírez (3B), Josh Naylor (1B), Lane Thomas (CF), Will Brennan (RF), Andrés Giménez (2B), Bo Naylor (C), and Brayan Rocchio (SS).
The game is a sell-out with an “amped” crowd expected to bring a charged atmosphere as the Tigers attempt to close out the series on home soil.
