Dewhurst Stakes Set for Exciting Showdown Between Coolmore and Godolphin
The highly anticipated Darley Dewhurst Stakes, taking place this Saturday, is set to showcase a fierce competition between racing giants Coolmore and Godolphin. Of the six runners, five hail from these two powerhouses, with Coolmore fielding a strong lineup from Aidan O’Brien’s Ballydoyle stable, and Godolphin presenting formidable contenders trained by Charlie Appleby.
Coolmore’s representation will include the favorite The Lion In Winter, alongside Expanded and Rock Of Cashel. The Lion In Winter, remarkably sired by Sea The Stars, has been rerouted to this prestigious race following an impressive win at the Acomb Stakes in York. His form is boosted by success from York’s runner-up Wimbledon Hawkeye, who triumphed in the Royal Lodge, and fourth-placed The Waco Kid, successful in the Tattersalls Stakes.
Godolphin’s chances lie with two strong competitors: Shadow Of Light and Ancient Truth. Shadow Of Light, after a commendable victory in the Middle Park Stakes over six furlongs, will be increasing the challenge by stepping up in distance. Ancient Truth remains unbeaten in three starts, including a decisive win over Seagulls Eleven in the July Stakes.
The only runner unassociated with Coolmore or Godolphin is Seagulls Eleven, trained by Hugo Palmer. Seagulls Eleven showed promise with a close third-place finish in the National Stakes during its last outing.
In addition to the Dewhurst Stakes, attention will also be on the Club Godolphin Cesarewitch, which will feature 25 contenders, despite a maximum field limit of 34. Last year’s winner, The Shunter, alongside William Mullins’ Sea Of Sands, are among the notable entries.
Moreover, Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe-winning duo Ralph Beckett and Rossa Ryan will collaborate on Starzintheireyes, competing in the Palace Pier Zetland Stakes. Michael Stoute’s Nightwalker will also be contending in the Emirates Autumn Stakes.
