Arizona Diamondbacks Home Run Celebration

MIAMI, Florida — The Arizona Diamondbacks surged to a decisive 6-2 victory over the Miami Marlins on Wednesday night, marking their fourth consecutive win of the season. With four home runs contributing to their total, Arizona continued to showcase their power, celebrating their second win in a three-game series at loanDepot Park.

Diamondbacks first baseman Josh Naylor opened the scoring with a solo home run in the second inning, an event that set the tone for the match. Pavin Smith, Tim Tawa, and Lourdes Gurriel Jr. also added home runs, with Gurriel’s two-run shot in the eighth inning solidifying a comfortable lead for Arizona.

“It’s great to see the ball flying out of the park,” said Diamondbacks manager Torey Lovullo. “Our players are making solid contact and it’s paying off in runs.”

Arizona pitcher Brandon Pfaadt (3-1) delivered a strong performance, completing 5 2/3 innings, allowing just one run on five hits while striking out six Marlins. His efficient outing followed a successful start against the Orioles, illustrating Pfaadt’s growing consistency. “I wanted to attack the zone and let my defense work,” Pfaadt stated. “I’m just trying to build off each start.”

The Marlins fought back in the fourth inning when Matt Mervis tied the game at 1-1 with a solo home run, but their enthusiasm was short-lived. In the fifth, Arizona reclaimed the lead with Corbin Carroll’s go-ahead RBI single. This put Arizona ahead 2-1 as they extended their winning streak.

The Diamondbacks increased their lead with back-to-back home runs in the sixth and seventh innings, with Smith hitting a towering 429-footer and Tawa following suit with a 414-foot drive, marking his first career home run.

Gurriel’s eighth-inning blast, which measured 415 feet, pushed the score to 6-1, providing crucial insurance runs for the Diamondbacks. Miami was able to narrow the gap to 6-2 thanks to Otto Lopez’s RBI double in the eighth, but it was not enough.

Marlins’ pitcher Max Meyer (1-2) had an uphill battle on the mound, giving up three runs in six innings while recording eight strikeouts. Despite the defeat, the team seeks to shift momentum in Thursday’s finale against the Diamondbacks.

“We have to regroup and focus on our next game,” Meyer said. “One bad game doesn’t define the series.”

With their current streak, the Diamondbacks are now 6-0 this season when they hit two or more home runs in a game. They will look to complete the sweep against Miami, starting at 9:10 a.m. MST on Thursday.
