Arizona Diamondbacks Ketel Marte Contract Extension News

Phoenix, Arizona – The Arizona Diamondbacks are reportedly close to finalizing a contract extension for infielder Ketel Marte, with total compensation exceeding $100 million. MLB insider Mike Rodriguez revealed that while a deal has not been officially completed, both parties are progressing towards an agreement.

As of Tuesday’s game, Marte boasts an impressive batting average of .333 early in the season. The two-time All-Star had a solid performance last season, hitting .292 with a .372 on-base percentage and .560 slugging percentage over 136 games for the Diamondbacks. At 31 years old, Marte continues to improve, recording over 10 Wins Above Replacement (WAR) in his last two complete seasons in the majors.

This proposed extension is notable as Marte still has three years remaining on his current contract, which includes a club option for 2028. It is anticipated that the new terms would increase his annual salary significantly compared to his existing deal.

The potential extension highlights the Diamondbacks’ confidence in their roster as they aim to establish themselves as serious contenders in the National League West. After missing the playoffs in 2024, the team made a strong run to the World Series in 2023, ultimately falling short against the Texas Rangers.

Marte is expected to play a crucial role in the Diamondbacks’ future, joining a strong core that includes Corbin Carroll, Josh Naylor, and Corbin Burnes. Should the extension go through, he will become the fourth player to secure a new deal with the Diamondbacks this offseason.

Earlier this year, Geraldo Perdomo signed a four-year extension, while Justin Martinez and Brandon Pfaadt inked five-year deals within the past two months. All four players are projected to have significant impacts on the Diamondbacks’ success moving forward.
