Diamondbacks Secure Star Pitcher Jordan Montgomery On One Year Deal

The Arizona Diamondbacks have made a significant addition to their pitching rotation just in time for the new season, as they lock in left-hander Jordan Montgomery on a one-year contract. The deal, reported by Ken Rosenthal, is valued at $25 million and includes a player option for a second season.

Jordan Montgomery, who put up impressive numbers in the past season, was a sought-after free agent with a strong track record. His signing with the Diamondbacks follows a series of shorter-term deals for top Scott Boras clients like Zack Wheeler and Nick Castellanos.

Montgomery’s signing with the Diamondbacks coincides with an unfortunate injury to the team’s other key free agent, Rodney Beckham, who is expected to miss some time. When Montgomery enters the rotation, he will join Madison Bumgarner, Zack Wheeler, and Nick Castellanos, forming a formidable pitching staff for the Diamondbacks.

During the 2023 season, Montgomery showcased his talent with a 3.20 ERA over 188.2 innings, including a standout performance with the Texas Rangers in the postseason, where he played a pivotal role in their run to the World Series. The Los Angeles Dodgers emerged victoriously against Montgomery’s Rangers in the championship.
