Djokovic and Alcaraz Prepare for Monte-Carlo Masters Showdown

MONTE-CARLO, Monaco — Novak Djokovic and Carlos Alcaraz are intensifying their preparations as they approach the prestigious Rolex Monte-Carlo Masters, set to kick off this week. The tournament marks the first clay-court ATP Masters 1000 event of the 2025 season, and both players are eager to showcase their skills on the surface.
During a practice session over the weekend, Djokovic, a 24-time Grand Slam champion, and Alcaraz, the rising Spanish star, engaged in a competitive set that underscored their readiness. Although the session did not conclude entirely, Alcaraz charged to a 4-2 lead before Djokovic bounced back, winning three consecutive games to finish at 5-4.
“It was great to hit with Carlos. Even though it was just practice, you could feel the intensity,” said Djokovic, who is aiming for his third title in Monte-Carlo, which would also mark his 100th tour-level title. “I’m still trying to find my rhythm, but it was good to get some quality shots in.”
Despite his successful practice session, Djokovic is cautious about his performance, admitting he is still recovering from an eye infection that impacted his recent play. “I’m managing a few things health-wise. Hopefully, I’ll be ready for my first match,” he said. “Expectations aren’t too high right now. It’s about getting matches under my belt as I prepare for the clay season.”
Alcaraz, who has quickly risen to prominence in the tennis world, is also looking to make a significant impact in Monte-Carlo. “The clay is different, and every match counts,” he said. “I’m focused on improving with each point I play.”
The tournament boasts an impressive lineup, including the top seeds like Daniil Medvedev and Stefanos Tsitsipas. As the competition unfolds, fans are eager to see how these players perform and whether Djokovic can recover fully to compete at his best.
Matches scheduled for the first days include exciting encounters featuring seeded players, with Djokovic and Alcaraz possibly on a collision course for the finals next Sunday. With both players in opposite halves of the draw, anticipation grows for what could be a thrilling showdown.
