LONDON — Novak Djokovic is terminating his coaching relationship with Andy Murray just weeks before the French Open. The decision, made by mutual agreement, means Djokovic will pursue his quest for an eighth Wimbledon title without Murray’s guidance.

The partnership began in November, with early signs of promise at the Australian Open, where Djokovic reached the semifinals despite an injury. However, he has struggled to regain form this season, suffering defeats in multiple tournaments, including the Miami Open final against 19-year-old Jakub Mensik.

“Thank you, coach Andy, for all the hard work, fun, and support over the last six months on and off the court. I really enjoyed deepening our friendship together,” Djokovic said in a statement.

Murray echoed these sentiments, saying, “Thanks to Novak for the unbelievable opportunity to work together, and to his team for all their hard work. I wish Novak all the best for the rest of the season.” Their collaboration lasted only four tournaments, with Murray present during Djokovic’s Miami Open run.

Despite high expectations, Murray’s impact was overshadowed by Djokovic’s poor results. The Serb has lost three matches in a row leading up to his withdrawal from the Italian Open this month and suffered early exits in both the Monte Carlo Masters and the Madrid Open.

As Djokovic approaches his 38th birthday on May 25, he is keen to secure his 25th Grand Slam title but faces mounting challenges. Murray shared that he often felt embarrassed by the attention their partnership received but valued the experience.

Djokovic is scheduled to play in the Geneva Open, starting next week, as he aims to regain his form ahead of the French Open.
