Novak Djokovic Practicing At Bnp Paribas Open

INDIAN WELLS, CaliforniaNovak Djokovic is aiming for a record sixth title at the BNP Paribas Open as he prepares to return to the tournament after a five-year absence.

The 36-year-old Serbian spoke to media on Thursday, expressing his excitement about competing at the ATP Masters 1000 event. Djokovic’s previous appearance at Indian Wells ended in disappointment when he lost in the third round last year.

“I’m feeling good. I really look forward to coming to Indian Wells and Miami this year,” Djokovic said. “I’ll play the Sunshine Double for the first time after six years. I hope to go deep in the tournament. I’ve done the right things in preparation.”

Among the younger competitors, 18-year-old Joao Fonseca impressed with a strong debut, defeating Jacob Fearnley earlier in the tournament. Djokovic noted his admiration for Fonseca, likening the young star’s rise to his own experience at that age.

“It does feel great, when you’re that young and playing at a high level, not much to lose, a lot to gain,” Djokovic explained. “He seems to be handling it all very well.”

Djokovic’s return to form is part of a broader narrative for the tournament, as he aims to surpass Roger Federer for the most men’s singles titles in Indian Wells history. He has won the tournament five times in the past — in 2008, 2011, 2014, 2015, and 2016.

The current tournament has also seen rain affect the schedule, with matches interrupted on Thursday. The final two matches of the day, including one featuring #NextGenATP star Learner Tien, were suspended due to weather conditions.

As Djokovic engages in this pivotal event, he is also eyeing upcoming competitions, including the Miami Open, where he has not competed since 2019. The legendary player is preparing to work with his coach, Andy Murray, again as they navigate this part of the season together.

“We’ve agreed on a short-term plan for working together through to at least the French Open,” Djokovic shared.

With the tournament underway, all eyes will be on Djokovic as he seeks to capture yet another title and solidify his legacy in the sport.
