Dodger Stadium Los Angeles Freeway Series

LOS ANGELES, California — The Los Angeles Dodgers and Los Angeles Angels are set to meet for the first time in Southern California this season on Sunday, March 23, 2025, at Dodger Stadium, kicking off their three-game exhibition Freeway Series.

This matchup boasts a notable pitching duel: Dodgers’ left-hander Jackson Ferris against Angels’ right-hander José Soriano. Ferris, a non-roster invitee, compiled a 5-7 record with a 3.20 ERA in 2024, splitting time between the Great Lakes Loons and the Tulsa Oilers. However, he has not yet secured a spring training win, sporting a 6.00 ERA over two appearances.

In contrast, Soriano ended the last season with a 6-7 record and a 3.42 ERA through 22 games, including 20 starts. This spring, he is still seeking his first victory, with an 0-2 record and a 4.30 ERA over five games.

As the teams prepare for the opening game at 5:10 PM PT, fans have multiple viewing options available. The Dodgers’ broadcast will be available on SportsNet LA, while Angels fans can catch the action on FanDuel Sports Network SoCal. Additionally, out-of-market viewers can watch on MLB Network.

The Freeway Series represents an exciting rivalry for local baseball fans. Dating back to 1962, the Angels currently lead the matchup 77-57, with five games having ended in ties. The Angels prevailed in two of the three meetings in 2024.

The Dodgers enter this series with a favorable 12-8 record in Cactus League play, while the Angels are under duress with a 10-16-4 record.

This occasion marks a significant moment for the Dodgers as they welcome back key players Mookie Betts and Freddie Freeman to the lineup. Betts, who had been recovering from an illness that sidelined him for two Cactus League contests and both exhibition games in Japan, will be ready for Sunday. In 11 spring games, he maintained a batting average of .240 with a home run and three RBIs.

Freeman, after dealing with rib discomfort following ankle surgery in the offseason, also returns to the roster. He showcased a strong spring, hitting .280 with three home runs and six RBIs, along with an OPS of 1.028.

Following the series against the Angels, the Dodgers will host the Detroit Tigers for their regular-season home opener on March 27.

The Angels, on the other hand, are looking to bounce back from the lowest record in their American League history at 63-99 last season and will start their season on the same day against the Chicago White Sox.

As anticipation builds for this weekend’s series, Southern California baseball aficionados can expect exciting competition and the chance to see prominent baseball stars back on the field.
