Dodgers Pitcher Tony Gonsolin Injury Update

LOS ANGELES, CA — The Los Angeles Dodgers have placed right-handed pitcher Tony Gonsolin on the injured list due to discomfort in his right elbow. This latest setback comes after an MRI revealed that his surgically repaired ulnar collateral ligament (UCL) remains intact.

Manager Dave Roberts confirmed the news, stating there is currently no timetable for Gonsolin’s return to throwing. “It’s a sigh of relief that there is no renewed damage in that UCL,” Roberts said. “Another tear would have sidelined him for more than a year.”

The 31-year-old Gonsolin had returned this season from Tommy John surgery. He performed well initially but struggled in his last outings, allowing 15 runs in 20 innings since May 18. Now, he joins several other Dodgers pitchers on the injured list, including Blake Snell and Tyler Glasnow.

In a meeting with reporters, Roberts mentioned that pitchers Blake Snell and Tyler Glasnow are scheduled for bullpen sessions tomorrow. Meanwhile, Emmet Sheehan is aiming to make another rehab start in Triple-A this week, seeking to throw four innings. “If he can do that, then he’s sort of going to be a viable option for reactivation from the IL,” Roberts said.

The Dodgers are facing a pitching crisis with eight starting pitchers now on the injured list, increasing the team’s reliance on their remaining healthy starters and taxi squad options.

General manager Brandon Gomes downplayed the urgency for external acquisitions ahead of the trade deadline. “With the information we have, and where guys are progressing, we will have all we need in-house,” Gomes stated.

With the July 31 trade deadline approaching, the front office will monitor health and performance closely to decide if reinforcements are necessary. Nevertheless, the Dodgers’ pitching depth has been substantially tested this season, raising concerns about their capability to compete as injuries mount.
