Dodgers Fall to Mets in High-Scoring NLCS Game 5
The Los Angeles Dodgers faced a setback in Game 5 of the National League Championship Series (NLCS) against the New York Mets, resulting in a 12-6 loss. The game took place at Citi Field in Queens, New York, with the Mets narrowing the Dodgers’ series lead to 3-2.
The game was marked by early excitement as Mets’ first baseman Pete Alonso hit a three-run homer in the first inning, driving in Francisco Lindor and Brandon Nimmo. Dodgers’ Andy Pages later responded in the second inning by scoring after a wild pitch by the Mets’ Peterson, who started strong on the mound.
Both teams showcased notable performances in the later innings. The Mets’ Starling Marte added to their lead with a crucial double in the third inning, bringing home Jesse Winker and Alonso. Marte continued to contribute, ultimately scoring again when Francisco Lindor tripled, extending the lead significantly.
Dodgers’ hitters attempted a comeback with Pages hitting a three-run homer in the fifth inning, and Mookie Betts adding a solo home run in the sixth. However, despite a series of efforts, the Dodgers could not bridge the gap that the Mets secured early on.
On the pitching front, Dodgers’ player E. Hernandez struggled, reflected in six runs scored against him in slightly over three innings of play. Alternately, the Mets’ bullpen, led by Peterson and Trevor May, stifled further runs effectively.
The game saw a significant turnout, with attendance figures reaching 43,841, and lasted for three hours and eight minutes. The Dodgers, who have held a strong postseason, now aim to close out the series in the upcoming game.
